Legacy is a Christian School

"And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education in minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."

- President George Washington, Farewell Address

Our prime directive is "leaving a legacy of God's amazing love". We begin every morning with 15 minutes of worship, prayer, or scripture. The Bible is used to supplement curriculum in reading, copy work, memorization, history, etc... All of our teaching and administrative staff are Christians who demonstrate the Heavenly Father's love to children. We employ teachers from various denominations, such as Methodist, Baptist, Catholic, Christian & Missionary Alliance, and Foursquare. Legacy meets on the church campus of Victory Foursquare Church in Marysville, WA and is affiliated with the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel. For more information on the Foursquare denomination, link to www.foursquare.org.

Legacy is a school of the Arts

"The arts, properly taught, are basic to individual development since they, more than any other subject, awaken all the senses -- the learning pores."

- American Council for the Arts in Education

Our curriculum encourages the exploration of different modes of creative expression and communication. Every afternoon includes a two hour afternoon arts block of drama, music, painting and dance. Classes include a mixture of age and skill level-appropriate classes (i.e. "creative movement" for kindergartners and "jazz/ballet" for higher skill levels). Education that includes a healthy dose of the arts inspires children to greater thoughts and greater things. For information on the importance of arts in education, link to:

.Legacy is a school of the Classics

"Modern socialized education, in comparison to the trivium, might be the endless pursuit of grammar, telling students what to think, without venturing into the deeper waters of the dialectic and rhetoric."

- Tracy Simmons, Climbing Parnassus
Classical Education produces children who know how to think, not just what to think.

The growing frustration with the fruit of the governmental-compulsory schooling experiment of the 1900's has caused many educators and families to look to more traditional, effective models of education. Based on the Trivium (Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric) classical education has been used for centuries in the world's most successful schools.

The Grammar (knowledge) stage refers to the gathering of knowledge. The years from kindergarten to 5th grade are crucial information gathering years.  These years are focused on Reading, Writing, Arithmetic, Vocabulary, Latin, English grammar, basic science facts, and history from creation to the modern day.

The Logic (understanding) stage takes advantage of the questioning that children naturally develop in the 5th-8th grade years. During these years, critique and analysis through rigorous discussion are encouraged, instead of simple assimilation of facts. We want kids to ask "Why did the colonists in America revolt against England?" or "How do we know what makes a painting great?" or "Why do we study ancient Greece more than Ancient Britain?"

This second stage of education also sees the introduction of classes in Formal Logic, Informal Logic, and Greek.

The final stage of the classical curriculum is Rhetoric (wisdom). It is here that application takes place. They have learned many facts in the grammar stage, learned how to think good and true thoughts about those facts in the logic stage, and now the ability to apply and communicate those truths is studied.

The Rhetoric stage, in the 9th-12th grades, the ability apply great thoughts to civic structure, economics, language, mathematics, science, & technology are taught.
